Black Bow Skirt and Swingy Knit Skirt

Here are the other two skirts I made for Skirting the Issue this year! (The first is here.)

First, a gathered skirt with a flat front, big bow, and hem band:

I really love how this one turned out! It's not as full as the other two, but the bow makes up for that.

I kept this one simple by serging everything on the interior.

The waistband was the only part that threw me a bit... I wanted a 3-inch waistband but the widest elastic I had was 2" and I wasn't keen on the idea of using more than one strip of elastic for this skirt. So I just made it work! It's not ideal, but it's functional and doesn't look too awkward.

I liked Lindsay's idea to interface the bows, so I did that, and interfaced the front waistband as well. I love how sturdy the bow is! The fabrics are all from my 'collection'- the black is leftover from the butterfly on this dress, and the other two were picked up in a bag of secondhand fabric quite some time ago. I'm really happy to put some of this to good use!

The final skirt is a super-simple gathered knit skirt. I used a quatrefoil from Girl Charlee (no longer available), which I picked up in a bargain lot last year, and some mustard ponte, also from Girl Charlee (and also no longer available), which I originally bought for an accent on a shirt that has yet to be made.

For how simple this skirt is- just a yard of fabric (cut in half and seamed together for over 110" of width) gathered onto a knit waistband- it wasn't particularly easy to sew! My serger was fighting the gathers the whole way. It probably would have been easier if it wasn't so full, but I love the swinginess it has with the extra fabric. It turned out cute enough though, and the lettuce-edging worked better than I expected on this not-so-stretchy knit:

And that's it for this year- hopefully next year I'll manage to make a few more! =)

Thanks for stopping by,

    1. Thank you! I like the quatrefoil too, but I had no idea what to make with it for the longest time- this was a good solution! =)
